President

Breanne Prindeville MS, CGC

Breanne is a board-certified genetic counselor who earned her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University. Breanne is a clinical genetic counselor at Endeavor health where she sees patients for a variety of clinical indications including cancer, cardiovascular, and general adult and pediatric genetics. Her research interests include facilitators and barriers to genetic testing in underserved populations, alternative genetics service delivery models, and genetic discrimination.  She is also actively involved with the Northwestern University Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling. Breanne is an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Illinois Society of Genetic Professionals (ISGP). She served as co-chair of the ISGP advocacy committee in 2024 and chair for 2025. Her advocacy work with ISGP has been focused on genetic discrimination protections, improving the genetic counselor licensure process, and expanding access to genetic services for Illinoisans.

Secretary

Cristal McAninch MS, CGC

Cristal  earned her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University and was certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2024. She currently works as a cancer genetic counselor at Loyola University Medical Center and also sees patients with pulmonary fibrosis/interstitial lung disease,  providing genetic counseling services to individuals and families navigating hereditary cancer risk and genetic testing decisions. Cristal is particularly passionate about improving access to genetic counseling services for underserved and underrepresented populations and advancing equitable care within genomic medicine.

She is also an active member of the Education Committee for the ISGP, where she contributes to initiatives that support continuing education for genetic counselors and promote awareness of the genetic counseling profession.

Treasurer

Arlene Carlos MS, CGC

Arlene is a board-certified genetic counselor who earned her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University. Arlene is a reproductive genetic counselor at Cook County Health, and her position is funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).  She is actively involved with the Northwestern University Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling. Arlene is also an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Illinois Society of Genetic Professionals (ISGP). She serves as chair of the ISGP membership committee for two consecutive years.

Immediate Past-President

Alyssa Valentine MS, CGC

Alyssa Valentine received her master's degree in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University in 2021 and was certified by the ABGC in the same year. Alyssa currently works as a cancer and cardiovascular genetic counselor at Cook County Health, Chicago’s safety net hospital, which serves a racially and ethnically diverse patient population that is predominantly under or uninsured. Alyssa is also actively involved with the Northwestern Genetic Counseling Program. She is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) and the Illinois Society of Genetics Professionals (ISGP). Alyssa served as the ISGP Advocacy Committee chair in 2023. Her advocacy work with ISGP has been focused on increasing protections against genetic discrimination, getting genetic counselors recognized as providers with Illinois Medicaid, and improving the genetic counseling licensure process.

Rachel Campagna MS, CGC

Rachel Campagna received her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Indiana State University and was board-certified in 2021. She is an adult cardiovascular genetic counselor at University of Chicago providing services to a racially and ethnically diverse population. Rachel has a special interest in the impacts of genetic testing in cardiac transplant patients and postmortem genetic testing. She is involved in the Northwestern University Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling as a clinical supervisor. Rachel is an active member is the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) and the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). Prior to her role as president-elect for ISGP, she was the co-chair for the Education Committee where she helped reinvigorate our prospective student event.

Board Member At Large

Maddie Berkvam MS, CGC

Maddie completed the dual-degree program at Northwestern University, earning a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling and a Master of Arts in Medical Humanities and Bioethics. Before pursuing a career in genetic counseling, she worked for five years as a medical writer, gaining valuable experience in healthcare communications and patient education. Since graduating in 2022, she has been with Endeavor Health (formerly NorthShore University HealthSystem), where she enjoys integrating her communication skills into patient consultations and working with individuals across a broad range of adult and pediatric clinical indications. In addition, Maddie is an active member of the hospital’s ethics committee and recently served on the subcommittee that revised the NSGC position statement on genetic testing of minors for adult-onset conditions. She is deeply committed to promoting justice and equity in healthcare, supporting the psychosocial well-being of her patients, and doting on her dog, Nile, and her cat, Roger.

Board Member At Large

Emma Hawkins MS, CGC

Emma Hawkins, MS, MA, LCGC, is a certified genetic counselor at Ascension Illinois. She specializes in hereditary cancer predisposition genetic testing and counseling, helping individuals and families understand their inherited cancer risks and make informed decisions about genetic testing. Emma has particular clinical expertise in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and other inherited cancer syndromes. She serves as a board member of the Illinois Society of Genetics Professionals and as chair to the ISGP communications committee. Emma earned her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling and her Master of Arts in Medical Humanities and Bioethics from Northwestern University.
